A newspaper article on dolmuş…

Finally, someone wrote on Dolmuşs. At first I thought the article was about those small vans that were available all the time. They are my favorite ones though I don’t use them much. In the chaos of traffic, despite what it looks like, I trust most of dolmuş drivers. They are bricoleurs, fast, furious but skilled and experienced drivers. Not necessarily they are gentle but in case you are in a hurry, or in case you are stuck in the middle of night…some lines work 24 hours a day…they are the solution. However, Today’s Zaman article(Appreciating Turkey while packed in a dolmuş) is about those bigger dolmuşs; that have similar logic of transportation with the smaller ones yet they are more annoying and they are mostly available in “normal” hours of the day, until after a little later that official public transportation means stop….

    You guys are right…you are probably going to see a few repeats in the local Turkish press from us…While most of the articles for our Stateside column are sent out “live” to our outlets.. Some wheels just turn slower than others, and end up months later. Sorry for any indigestion you may have suffered reading the “leftovers”.

    Hey! I didn’t suffer from any kind of ‘indigestion’ from reading ‘leftovers’!!! In fact it is nice to see some posts are published in newspapers…

    same here! I just felt guilty that i forgot Stan’s post here. it is good that one of our blog posts is published. But here i also wonder. Did you, Stan, send the article to the newspaper or did they just find it and published? If Stan sent it, it all right with me but if the second case happened; maybe they should have noted the source…

    Erkan, This article was submitted by us to TZ. The publication date of our column is up to the individual outlet. So, while a specific column may be written in Jan 06 (for eg)and printed in a Stateside paper within a few days of submission, another paper may not use it for several months. While this is our first article in TZ…they have been very easy to please and work with. You “may” see our stuff again in TZ….:}
