Florya Beach opening June 2006

Florya Beach, located near Atatürk Airport, is opening June 2006.

Florya Beach, Istanbul

I was raised in Florya. Back then it used to be a great place, I don’t really know what it looks like today.

But the beach is very cool, it’s not very big but not very small either and the sand is great and it is silent.

After being ignored and almost forgotten for a very long time, the city management has decided to get a grip of this beautiful beach and it isnow being turned into a modern entertainment point including everything you can think of.

Got kids ? Bring them along with you and they’ll probably have the best day of their lives. The water doesn’t get deep very suddenly so especially children will also be safe. The new beach shall also (according to the tellings) have adequate number of lifesavers so there won’t be a reason to have worries.

It is fun to see something from my childhood is rising up again….

so if you are going to stay in İstanbul for the summer and complain about there is nowhere to swim, you have no more excuses …

Several years ago I ‘discovered’ a god forsaken beach in Yeşilköy- a lonely beach at the back of apartment blocks, far away from noise and crowd of Yeşilköy, silent, beautiful and peaceful…

To have more beaches in İstanbul will be great. But personally I don’t want them to turn into those ‘trendy beach clubs’.

    which will eventually happen Meral…

I hate to admit it but I guess it is better to have some trendy beach which is clean and safe instead of a casual one where some “certain” people cause problems and leave their garbage behind when leaving..

    erm….

and I am definitely against beach visitors in full clothes and / or white underwear ;)

that’s good news! I’ve also spent so many summer months running around in florya as a child,

and I have to agree that it is better to have a “trendy” beach than a dirty and uncomfortable one..

    Yeah…
Unfortunately both of you are right: if I have to chose between a trendy beach club and a beach where women swim with their clothes on and men with their underwear, cooking meat on barbecue and leaving all their garbage behind them when leaving, I’ll definitely chose the former.

But am I the only one who thinks beaches should be beaches, a beach-like-beach is the best?

well honestly I think the best beach is a an isolated, deserted one; small, natural and hidden away from all prying eyes. but hey, we’re talking about a beach in istanbul, so what’re the odds?! :)
