OnDokuz

Last night while going back from work to home, I would have never thought that my ride home would be so entertaining.
While at the Besiktas stop, I noticed that the bus was staying unusually long at the stop and thats when I heard them. A group of tourists, 19 to be exact, started boarding the bus from the front. They were trying to explain to the driver that they wanted 19 tickets but they didn’t know that you couldn’t buy the tickets from the actual bus (see:red bus/blue bus). The bus driver let them pass, all for free. I was so proud of this lovely act of kindness that will probably stick to their minds and be one of their positive memories of the trip. They didn’t know how to say that they we’re 19 so this girl told them that 19 was “On Dokuz” in turkish and thats when it all went down hill.
For the next 30 mns, they kept repeating “On Dokuz” amongst them. I stopped counting at the 23rd On Dokuz.
The traffic between Besiktas and Ortakoy is horrendous at night so I was happy when I finally managed to get out of the bus, 45mns later.
