The 9th Istanbul Biennial’s title is easy to remember: “Istanbul”, a city which is thought to be lots of things. There are 53 artists and half of them have been invited to live in the city and experience it. The other half chose to exhibit their works which are elsewhere around the world. This functions as a compare and contrast and makes it easier to read the city for the visitors. The locations selected for the exhibition are of taste: the buildings are scattered around the historic peninsula, the walk between these locations is a part of the biennial experience itself. As an Istanbuller, you look at Istanbul from an other’s eyes and see there your self.
